The Series 500-27PELS Personal
Locator Beacons are simple,
compact lightweight units which
can be used either manually or
automatically
via ejection seat
harness or life survival jacket.
Incorporating a fully embedded
12 channel GPS receiver with
data burst transmission
on 406
MHz in addition to 121.5 and
243MHz, the unit is compatible
with the majority of search and
rescue equipment including the
COSPAS/SARSAT
satellite based
survivor location equipment.
The PLB transmitter is housed in
a yellow, black or NATO green
coloured aircraft grade
aluminium
case, which is
designed such that the
user-replaceable battery pack is
fitted within the overall package
to form a smooth but non-slip
hand
portable unit.
The PLB has a comprehensive
Built In Test feature, which allows
the operator to check battery
condition, circuit integrity
and RF
Output via a Go/No Go LED.
Batteries are integrated into the
PLB housing, fully sealed to
ensure reliable performance
under all
environmental
conditions.
The antenna supplied is capable
of being attached directly to the
beacon or remotely, by means of
a counterpoise
for maritime
survival.
The unit is designed to survive
for a minimum of twenty years
with the only maintenance being
battery replacement
every five
years.
